LinkedIn Tips
Here are three quick tips you can use to get more out of LinkedIn:
Participate in the Discussion
On LinkedIn, there are a few ways to participate in the discussion. You can ask questions or answer other LinkedIn user's questions, you can comment on people's status and you can post news and discussion items to groups. All three tools are great ways to increase the number of people that see your profile.
Tip: Try to ask questions that are interesting and general to get the most people to answer.
The more second and third degree connections you have the more of LinkedIn you can see. LinkedIn hides most of it's network from new users and only makes the people that are connected to people who are connected to people you are connected with visible. By increasing the number second and third degree connections you have, you make LinkedIn more useful because you can search and find more people and often find ways to connect to them.
Tip: Connecting with a few people who have lots of connections works as well as connecting with a lot of people with few connections. Want to get regular leads? Update your status. When you update your status, everyone you are linked to potentially sees your change. If you include a link, use a url shortener service like bit.ly or tinyurl.com to make your link more readable because LinkedIn often chews up long web addresses.
Tip: Don't use LinkedIn's status like Twitter. Make sure your update is professional.{discuss forum:1}
